LIDC Short Course- Evaluation: From Innovation to Impact

LIDC's Short Course entitled “Evaluation: from Innovation to Impact” will be held from Monday 4 November to Friday 8 November 2019. The course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive background in evaluation methods for development programmes. Students will also develop their own evaluation protocol to apply their learning to a contemporary development problem.

LOCATION

The course will be held from 9am – 5pm Monday 4 November to Friday 8 November 2019 from 9am to 5pm each day. It will take place in LG4, 15-17 Tavistock Place, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Kings Cross, London WC1H 9SH

ELIGIBILITY

The course is for postgraduates and professional staff, but we will also consider applicants with a bachelor degree and extensive work experience.

PROGRAMME

The programme will include sessions on quantitative and qualitative research as well as methods and impact evaluations. Leading international NGOs, Oxfam GB and Relief International, will deliver sessions on impact evaluation in development practice. Tutors will include academics and practitioners from the following organisations:

  • London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
  • SOAS University of London
  • UCL Institute of Education
  • The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie)

A tutor will support students all week and help them to enhance their understanding of course concepts through group work exercises.

We are currently finalising this year’s programme, but please have a look at last year’s programme to get a better idea of content and structure.

COURSE FEES

The course fee will be £1,500. If your organisation sends two or more people on the course, there will be a 10% discount on each person’s fee. The fee includes study materials as well as refreshments during the course (tea, coffee and lunch). It does not include accommodation.

BURSARIES

We are very happy to announce that LIDC will sponsor one bursary while our partner 3ie will sponsor three bursaries. The deadline for application is 15 September 2019.

LIDC bursary

The bursary is only available for members of LIDC who are PhD students and/or professional staff. The bursary winner is expected to write a blog post for the LIDC website within three months of course completion. The blog post should state her/his learning outcome from the course and how she/he used that knowledge in her/his work/research.

The bursary will cover your fees only. Allocation of the bursary is based on the application statement (please see our registration form for more information). If your application is unsuccessful, we will contact you and ask if you would like to pay your own fees or withdraw your application.

3ie bursaries

3ie bursaries are awarded to researchers and policymakers from low- and middle-income countries (L&MICs) who are actively engaged in conducting impact evaluations, systematic reviews or evidence synthesis. Bursary applicants should be employed with either national, regional (local) agencies or government agencies, and not with multilateral or international organisations that have the capacity to fund their employees.

The bursary will cover the round trip, economy-class airfare (from home city only), the accommodation for the duration of the course and the full course fee.
