For the past eight years, the LIDC short course has equipped hundreds of development professionals with expert training in Programme Evaluation. Evaluation plays a critical role in development projects and programmes, and there is a crucial need for development professionals to acquire and develop skills that will allow them to understand, commission and use evaluation studies.

 

LIDC's short course, ‘Programme Evaluation: from Innovation to Impact’ provides participants with a comprehensive grounding in impact evaluation methods and approaches. Students will get to apply their knowledge to contemporary development challenges.

 

For 2022, we launch our new hybrid format. This meant that participants now have the choice of joining us either in person in Central London, or joining us online from anywhere in the world. The course is full-time from 5-9 December, 2022. Students attending in person will have the benefit of a group session at the end of each day, which means their day will finish at 5pm GMT.  Based on feedback we have received, we have structured the course so that online participants will attend all other lectures and group work from around 9am with their day finishing at 3pm GMT.

HYBRID FORMAT FOR FLEXIBLE LEARNING

LIDC moved the course online in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The course was a success, and students from around the world told us that the online format enabled students to attend without having to undergo the disruption and expense of traveling to London to take part. Others told us that they would like to attend in person if this was possible. So,  for the first time since 2019, those who wish to attend in person will be able to do so. We now have the benefit of the success of the past two years of online tuition. Building on that, we can offer students who are unable to join in person - or who simply prefer online learning - the option of taking the course through Collaborate Ultra. Hence, this year, we are delighted to offer the short course in a hybrid format.

 

WHO CAN APPLY?

The course is intended for global development professionals and those working in the public and private sectors. The course focuses on impact evaluation using a variety of methods, and will appeal to those using, commissioning or doing evaluation. Past participants have included staff working in programmes and strategy at NGOs and central and local government, professional evaluators and academic researchers.

 

SHORT COURSE PROGRAMME

The course will include sessions on quantitative and qualitative approaches to impact evaluation. In 2021, course tutors include academics and practitioners from the following organisations:

FEES, DISCOUNTS AND BURSARIES

The course fee (£1,000 for online tuition and £1,400 for in-person learning) includes study materials.

If your organisation sends two or more people on the course, there will be a 10% discount on each person’s fee. If you plan to book two or more people on the course, please send an email to lidcshortcourses@lidc.ac.uk to arrange a discount. We also offer a 10% discount for students who sign up and pay for the short course before 15 September 2022.

 

There will be a number of discounted places on the online version of the course for residents of low- or middle-income countries that would otherwise not have been able to attend the short course. We will open the application for these places in July.
