Calling artists in our member colleges

LIDC is launching its very own Artist in Residence programme to communicate our research through the eyes of an emerging artist. The artist will join us for a period of 6 months – 1 year to develop their talent within the context of international development. We are now accepting applications from artists who would like to bring creative expression to the work being done at LIDC.
Who are we looking for?
We welcome applications from students and graduates from our member colleges, as well as from individual LIDC student members. You can be a painter, composer, graphic designer, poet, photographer, sculptor, illustrator – or indeed any other type of artist. What matters is your ability to create artistic works related to international development that strike a chord with our audience. Unfortunately, artists face red tape, too: You need to be resident and have the right to work in the UK to be considered for our artist in residence programme.
What will our new Artist in Residence do?
Our Artist in Residence will be part of LIDC’s inspiring and diverse workplace. The artist will work alongside researchers and the communications teams to create new opportunities to engage the public through art. We’ll showcase your art on our website, on social media and at our events.
What can LIDC offer?
The successful applicant will get the material they need to aid and develop their art. This could include printing, photo and video editing software or painting materials. When it is safe to do so, the artist is welcome to occasionally work from our office in 20 Bloomsbury Square. The artist will get a unique platform to present their work and the possibility to expand and strengthen their network. The artist will be paid the London Living Wage and is expected to work around 10 hours per calendar month (hours and days are negotiable).
How to I apply?
We accept applications from student and alumni members of LIDC, so the first step is to sign up to become a member (free of charge for students in our member institutions): lidc.ac.uk/join. Please send your CV, a short motivation letter and work samples/portfolios to admin@lidc.ac.uk. There is no fixed deadline, but we encourage early applications. Our Artist in Residence will be appointed as soon as the right candidate applies.
