LIDC Annual Global Development Photography Competition Now Open!

LIDC’s annual global development photography competition ‘Lens on Development’ is now open! The theme this year is Global Development Challenges.
Are you a budding photographer? took an amazing photo on your last holiday or research trip? Enter the LIDC photography competition and you could win £100 and have your image displayed at an LIDC drinks reception.
The competition is open to all LIDC members. LIDC membership is free to:
- All staff, students and alumni of the following institutions: SOAS, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Birkbeck, UCL Institute of Education, Royal Veterinary College, Queen Mary University of London and City, University of London
- Current post-graduate students at UCL’s Development Planning Unit and Kings College Department of International Development
Theme
Submissions must reflect current global development challenges and be accompanied by a short description of the photograph describing its location and relation to the theme. The winning photographs will be judged on both the image and description and we strongly encourage photographers of all levels to apply. Ideas include:

Poverty, health, gender inequality, housing etc; What do you consider to be a key global development challenge? How does your image relate to or reflect this challenge?

Is there a story behind your photo that reflects a global development challenge?

In what context was your photo taken?

At LIDC we are very privileged to work with a number of fantastic images adorning our office walls supplied to us by the organisation PhotoVoice, a charity which uses participatory photography as a catalyst for social change. Have a look at the images on their site for more ideas!
Prizes
The winner will receive £100 and the top photographs will be exhibited and followed by a drinks event held by LIDC (date tbc) where there will be an opportunity to meet LIDC’s new Director and receive your award. The two runners up will receive an award of £25 each.
Submissions
All entries must be in JPEG or PNG and include a short description of the photograph (location, relation to themes etc). Please send all submissions to @lidc.bloomsbury.ac.uk by midnight on the closing date (GMT) and include your mother, and details of which institution you are affiliated with.
The deadline for this competition has been extended and is now Midnight on 12th February 2018 and each entrant may submit up to three photos. All LIDC members are able to enter the competition.
- Membership is free and open to all staff, students and alumni from our member colleges (Birkbeck, UCL-Institute of Education, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Royal Veterinary College, SOAS, Queen Mary University and City, University of London) who are interested in international development.
- Current postgraduate students at UCL’s Development Planning Unit and Kings College London’s Department of International Development are also able to become LIDC members for free.

Whilst copyright will remain with the photographer, by entering the competition all applicants agree to let LIDC use the image in their marketing, publications and communications (online and paper).
