Are you a student or recent graduate looking for a professional network to help kickstart your career in global development? London International Development Centre (LIDC) invites you to benefit from our membership programme.
Becoming a member connects you with over 5,700 like-minded peers and professionals who are dedicated and passionate about working in global development. Members also get opportunities to develop professional proficiencies through workshops, events and job shadowing.
Membership, which costs just £10 per year* comes with a variety of benefits, including:
A Network of Professional Peers
In an age where more and more is done online, there is no better time to become a part of a virtual professional network. By joining LIDC, you’ll become part of the largest global community of international development experts. Our members include students, recent graduates and professionals from a variety of backgrounds – including academic researchers and development practitioners. What unites us is our passion for creating positive changes in international development.
To enhance the networking opportunities, LIDC has created a members-only space on LinkedIn. Here members can connect, ask questions, share relevant information, and partake in friendly discussion.
Job Shadowing Opportunities
Curious what a day in the life of your future career might be like? This year, we’re inviting a limited number of students and recent graduates to job shadow some of our staff, so you can get a real picture of what an international development career may involve.
Free Access to Exclusive Events
Early Career LIDC members receive free access to LIDC events. The theme of these events ranges from discussions by international development experts, career skills workshops, and networking events. Previous events have included a broad range of themes from panel discussions with post-doctoral researchers and forming equitable partnerships in international research, to advice on how to start your career in international development, as well as quiz and networking events.
Monthly Updates
Each month our Early Career Members receive a student and recent graduate-oriented newsletter that keeps members up to date with LIDC news and upcoming events and includes a specifically curated international development job board.
Internship Opportunities (next round of recruitment expected 2022)
Each year we are happy to welcome multiple LIDC members into our London based office as communications interns. The interns join our communications staff for 10-12 hours per week for a period of six weeks. In this time the interns will contribute to a number of activities, such as social media, events management, blog writing, and newsletter creation. This internship allows students and recent graduates the opportunity to develop communications skills, while gaining experience working in an international development setting. Internship opportunities are unfortunately currently on hold for individual members, but we hope to welcome all members to apply again soon. Students from our member colleges QMUL, RCV, SOAS, DPU and City UoL, may still be eligible to apply, please see here.
Sign up for your membership here and join our global international development community.
